Graduates Studies in School Psychology at Tulane University

Tulane University’s School Psychology Program is located within the Department of Psychology and offers a doctoral level (Ph.D.) program that qualifies students for the professional practice of school psychology.  The Department does not offer a terminal Master’s degree in this program. The program is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). For new graduate students, completion of the Ph.D. program requires approximately five to six years representing four years of course work, practicum experience, and empirical research including a Master’s Thesis and Doctoral Dissertation, as well as a year of pre-doctoral clinical internship experience.

The School Psychology Program offers doctoral research training in basic and applied aspects of developmental science. Faculty research interests include developmental psychopathology, resilience and stress reactivity, and the typical developmental patterns among adolescents of color, spatial reasoning, and the development of tool use. State of the art research laboratories include the Infant and Toddler Development Project at Tulane’s University Square facility. Additional facilities on campus are made possible through the Newcomb Children's Center and the University’s Upward Bound Program, and the Anxiety Clinic. Cooperation with community institutions and schools in the city of New Orleans are excellent.

The School Psychology Program faculty is committed to training individuals from various diverse backgrounds. Our students body has representatives from all areas of the United States and from other countries as well.  Many of our students have strong interests in multicultural issues and thus the program provides multiple research opportunities as well as more applied opportunities to work with a wide range of students, families, and community settings.
