Senior Awards
The 2008 senior scholars in psychology and neuroscience are announced at the April 23 honors reception; they are Jenna Rosen and Lauren Ruth (psychology, who work with Drs. Szechter and Wilson, respectively) and Cassandra Kovach and Christina Thomas (neuroscience, who work with Drs. Schrader-Kriek and Inglis, respectively)). Congratulations to our senior scholars
The co-recipients of the Arnold Gerall Prize in Neuroscience in 2008 are Jennifer O'Malley and Kate Frankola.
The recipient of the Rosa Cahn Hartman Prize in Psychology is Nichole Kanopoulos; the recipient of the Aaron Hartman Medal in Psychology is Jeremy Eberle.
Kelly Holmes is the inaugural recipient of the Barbara E. Moely Award for Psychology in the Public Interest; Kelly also is a co-recipient of the first Jim Runsdorf Excellence in Public Service through Tulane's Center for Public Service.

Faculty Accolades
Terry Christenson is the 2008 recipient of the Emily H. Vokes Faculty Service Award from the School of Continuing Studies. Congratulations to Terry on his fine and consistent service to SCS.
Michael Cunningham is named the 2008-2009 Duren Professor. Dr. Cunningham's Duren course, in Spring 2009, will be "New Orleans’ Youth: Resilience and Vulnerability in Tomorrow’s Leaders." Congratulations to Mike, and best wishes for his course development.
Jill Daniel is promoted to Associate Professor with tenure.
Lisa Molixis recipient of a $126,2777 grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents Research Competitiveness Program
Beth Wee is the 2007-2008 recipient of the Ducky Award. Presented by Tulane's chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa, this award for exemplary service honors the memory of
Dr. John Karlem "Ducky" Riess, a much beloved figure in Tulane's academic history.
Graduating Seniors: Save the Date. A reception for graduating psychology majors will be held on Thursday May 15th from 4-6 in Cudd Hall. Psychology awards will be announced at this reception.
September 2007
Hertz Chair
The Lila L. and Douglas J. Hertz Endowed Chair in Psychology will focus on "the science of learning.'" The Chair is funded by a generous donation from the Lila and Doug Hertz (both Tulane alumni) and a matching grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents. The BOR matching funds were presented by Commisioner Joe Savoie at a September 6th ceremony at the LBC. A search for the Hertz Chair will commence this fall.
Body Image and Obesity
Tulane psychology alumnus Dr. David Sarwer (University of Pennsylvania Department of Psychiatry) shared his research insights about body image with the Tulanian. Dr. Sarwer will deliver a colloquium on October 22 about psychological aspects of obesity. [Link to our colloquium schedule]
Lisa Molix, Ph.D. 2007 University of Missouri-Columbia,joined the faculty in July 2007. Molix is a social psychologist who is interested in stigma, stereotyping, and quantitative methods. She is teaching an honors section of Social Psychology this fall.
Visiting Faculty
The Department welcomes two visiting faculty: Dr. Tolga Aricak will teach courses in school and developmental psychology. Dr. Bethany Rollins will teach introductory psychology and Brain&Behavior.
May 2007
The first Suzanne and Stephen Weiss Presidential Fellows for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching were announced at the unified commencement ceremony. Professor Dohanich, who instituted the neuroscience major in 2000 and secured funding for its state-of-the-art teaching laboratory, teaches courses in psychopharmacology and behavioral neuroendocrinology.

A reception to honor graduates in psychology was held May 17 from 4-6 at Cudd Hall. The chocolate fountain was a hit !!!

Laurie O'Brien has been awarded a $126,157 grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents: "Conceptualizing Racism: Understanding Group and Individual Differences in the Perception of Racism"

March 2007
Lisa Molix, who is completing her doctoral studies at University of Missouri-Columbia, will join the faculty in July 2007. Molix is a social psychologist who is interested in stigma, stereotyping, and quantitative methods.
